Daniel Taylor—Chief Executive, University of the World
Daniel is the founder of Future Generations and Future Generations Graduate School, which he led for twenty years. Before that he was President of The Mountain Institute for two decades. His primary fieldwork has been to establish the large transborder nature preserves in China and Nepal circling Mount Everest. He is one of the synthesizers of SEED-SCALE, an understanding how to empower communities then scale up their community-driven energy to large impact.
Brenda Gourley – Former Vice Chancellor & CEO Open University Association
With a professional focus on Open Universities, include higher education strategy and trends (including impact of technology), the potential of open and distance education, leadership, ethics, and the role of universities in their communities. Before the Open University system, she was Vice Chancellor of University of Natal (now KwaZulu-Natal). She is founder of the Talloires Network of universities involved in civic engagement and served on its Steering Committee.
Kul Gautum – Former Deputy Executive Director, UNICEF
Kul is an international civil servant, public policy expert, and human rights activist. During his UNICEF tenure he was Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, and was the principal organizer of the 1990 World Summit on Children. Currently he advises Nepal’s senior political and civil society leadership on the peace process, consolidation of democracy, and on socio-economic development. He also serves on the boards of a number of international and national foundations, charitable organizations, and public private partnerships.
Nafis Sadik – Special Adviser to the UN Secretary General for HIV/AIDS in Asia, and former Executive Director, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)
Dr. Sadik began her professional life as a physician, practicing obstetrics and gynecology in rural communities in Pakistan. She was appointed Pakistan’s director-general of the Central Family Planning Council. In 1971, she joined the United Nations. In 1987, Dr. Sadik was appointed executive director of UNFPA, with the rank of under-secretary-general, becoming the first woman in the history of the United Nations to lead one of its major program organizations.
